In 2016, the Training and Development Committee has been successfully implemented three series of certificate courses in the Dragon Boat Training Programme and now developing to the stage three already.
The Level 2 Dragon Boat Coaching Course was held in this year, which attracted most coaches to enroll. However, 18 coaches can only be selected to attend the course. HKCDBA trusts we can raise the levels of dragon boating in Hong Kong by training up more junior coaches through this course. Besides, we aimed to gain more support from coaches, hence we hold the Level 2 Dragon Boat Coaching Course in every 3 years.
6 schools enrolled the School Demonstration, the Outreach Coaching Programme and the Joint Schools Sports Training Programme in School Sports Programme subvented by LSCD.
In addition, we organized the School Training Programme. 14 schools and about 252 students joined this programme. And there were 31 schools enrolled the 7th Inter-school Dragon Boat Competition, which the number of teams and people are the most in this year.
Apart from training in coaches, HKCDBA had hosted the Coaching Seminars in 2 days and totally 57 coaches attend to join the discussion. Furthermore, Milan Krasny, our Head Coach of Hong Kong Team had obtained the “Best Team Sport Coach Award” and “Coaching Excellence Awards” from “2015 Jockey Club Hong Kong Coaching Awards”, which hosted by Hong Kong Coaching Committee. Moreover, HKCDBA had firstly added “Honour Dragon Boat Coaching Awards” in 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association. This award is aimed to praise their outstanding effort in dragon boating field and will be awarded the winner in every year. We congratulate to Mr. Kwok Mei and Mr. Cheung Wah Ming about the great effort.
There were 11 affiliate clubs applied to commence the training courses include the elementary, intermediate dragon boat training course and the Level 1 Helm certificate course in this year. There were totally 368 applicants achieved different levels of certificate, which revealed that they support the training scheme.
In the social services view, 2016 is meaningful to Hong Kong Dragon Boating field, since it is the 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association cum 40th Anniversary of Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races in this year. To appreciate the support from different parties and the recognition to Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, HKCDBA specially promoted dragon boating to the disabilities and the grass roots to expend their social network through a promotion scheme “Campanion Paddling with Disabilities” and “Dragon Boat Caring 2016”. “Campanion Paddling with Disabilities” invited Non-Governmental Organizations to participate with free facilities, coaches and etc. Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, one of the joining organizations had participated in the demonstration race of 7th Hong Kong Long Distance Dragon Boat Championships (Charity) on Oct 16. All athletes were excited, as they earned the great experience from dragon boating. “Dragon Boat Caring 2016” is organized by HKCDBA and Jigsaw, a charity group. More than 200 teenagers from grass root and volunteers from Jigsaw who are above 12 years old were taught by the volunteer coaches in Shek Mun Training Centre on May 1.
龍舟訓練進程 The Curriculum
To ensure the quality of dragon boat coaches and sustain the continuous development of dragon boat sports in Hong Kong, the Level 1 Dragon Boat Coach Course was commenced on 22nd November, 2015 at the Shek Mun Dragon Boat Training Center. The vice president, Mr Chung Chi Lok Arnold, instructors and the students attended the opening ceremony in the morning.
It is the 13th year of the Level One Coaching Course being held in Hong Kong, the course aimed at promoting Dragon Boat sports through expanding the coaches team. This year, the course attracted various participants came and join the course, including both active and retired dragonboaters and students of affiliated associations. The course is scheduled in 5-week long including both practical and theoretical curriculum, such as dragon boat techniques, safety issues, race regulation, psychology of sports , fitness training, use of ergometer and teaching method, etc. The students are required to pass the examination after they obtain 100% attendance of the course, follow by performing an 8-hour internship before they can register as an official Dragon Boat coach in Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association.
